once a year i offer this public service announcement: where to get free testing for sexually transmitted diseases in King County.

there are plenty of opportunities for free treatment here as well. University of Washington is a leader in herpes and HIV/AIDS research, and were developers of the Western Blot test.

in any case, your health (and birth control if you swing that way) is something that should be discussed before, not after. here's some help on how to handle it.

(the following links are reasonably safe for work, but the rest of the site is not.) it doesn't hurt to read the manual, but the safest and most reliable sex is solo.

if you are a registered voter in Washington state, the caucus on Saturday decides ALL (Democratic) or 51% (Republican) of the delegates to the national party conventions. if you want a say in the nominating process, the caucus matters more than the state primary, and you must declare a party affiliation to have a say at all.

if you would like to choose the Republican candidate, you should participate in the caucus this Saturday AND the primary on February 19th.

if you would like to choose the Democratic candidate, you should participate in the caucus only. the primary vote assigns zero Democratic delegates.

here is an article with some explanation. yes, it's messed up and a waste of money. don't let it disenfranchise you.

here is where to find your caucus location: Republican Party, Democratic Party.

Washington caucuses are held somewhere near home (but probably not your usual polling place) at 1pm this Saturday.

Masterpiece Theatre is showing a major series of Jane Austen adaptations in 2008. Slog says in January, but i can't find confirmation from PBS. (KCTS seems to follow the suggested PBS broadcast dates, where KBTC shakes it up.)

i was getting spam in my gmail account - all filtered into the spam folder, because gmail is damn good, but still annoying. not annoying enough for me to do any research about fixing it, though.

about ten days ago i read a mention in a locked post of spam coming through eljay paid account email forwarding. so i turned it off. in the last week i've received only two pieces of spam, and one was a false positive from a mailing list. previously i was getting 30 or more a day. victory!

i watched Lost Tales: Voices in the Dark so you don't have to.

fortunately, the ill effect was somewhat dulled by dinner, cupcakes, and company. i feel like we need to get some sage for [livejournal.com profile] markbourne and E's tv room.

Flickr now has "safety" levels. nanny Yahoo has turned them on by default. "unsafe" pics include the view from a friend's office, a picture of a concert, and a Sister of Perpetual Indulgence with a dog. in other words, if your picture's title includes a man's name or the word "drag", it's blacked out.

it took some digging to turn this crap off.

go here to set your preferences. now to find where i can go to complain...

friend [livejournal.com profile] moocards, go here, get free 10-pack. (until 10,000 users bite.) i love my flickr moo cards; for LJ you can use scrapbook photos or words for the picture side.

got a question for Congressman Jim McDermott? he's live on Slog right now, taking questions and answering them in the comments.

say there's a song you've heard, and you know the lyrics, but not the title or artist. you can go through two layers of search and visit several websites, or you can use Music Mash. it pools lyrics, sound, and video results from YouTube, Yahoo, and Rhapsody in one (kinda ugly) tabbed interface. it's my favorite so far of the stuff people have made from web services.

there's a deal on mystery shirts at Diesel Sweeties.

the hint is that there may be some cease and desisted designs still available. i decided to roll the dice.

this entry brought to you by [livejournal.com profile] raevnos and impulsiveness.

the BBC is doing a Doctor Who advent calendar as a run-up to their Dec 25th showing of The Runaway Bride. every day in December there's another treat. today's is video of the recording of the DVD commentary for New Earth (first episode of series two), complete with David Tennant in a gray hoodie speaking in his regular Scottish accent.

C made it to work safely this morning. not so much for other folks. i watched two people in a row go down running for the bus, and then arrived at work to find someone's car wrapped around the pole by the skybridge and the fire dept everywhere. someone else just drove off the viaduct.

(for the more distant folks on the f-list, Seattle has snow and freezing temperatures that are unusual in November. the snow isn't quite sticking, so there are lovely patches of slick mud and black ice. plus half the drivers are completely confused by ice and snow.)

be careful out there.

(also, one of the suggestions for skybridge from the eljay spellchecker is "Kubrick.")
