C made it to work safely this morning. not so much for other folks. i watched two people in a row go down running for the bus, and then arrived at work to find someone's car wrapped around the pole by the skybridge and the fire dept everywhere. someone else just drove off the viaduct.

(for the more distant folks on the f-list, Seattle has snow and freezing temperatures that are unusual in November. the snow isn't quite sticking, so there are lovely patches of slick mud and black ice. plus half the drivers are completely confused by ice and snow.)

be careful out there.

(also, one of the suggestions for skybridge from the eljay spellchecker is "Kubrick.")

Yikes that's not so good. Hope they're okayish at least.

yikes! just confirms my decision to only visit seattle in months that begin with an "A". i'd rather be driving on ice and snow with other folk who are familiar with driving on ice and snow, thanks. (the wretchedly cold part, on the other hand? that's starting to get really old.)

"Kubrick"
i suggest that you make it a habit to from now on refer to it thusly, thus confounding your enemies!

Same here. I grew up in the mountains--4500 feet--and we'd get our first dump in October and it wouldn't melt until March. So I got used to driving on packed snow that was the same height as the sidewalk (at least.)

But there, everyone else knew how to handle it, too. Here, we have a bizarre mix of people who can't drive when there's any precipitation at all (SoCal transplants) and people who can't drive in either sun or snow (locals). The only safe time to be on the road here is when it's overcast.

Ooh!

I keep seeing job openings that I want. I want to hurry up and get this degree done with!

so they basically don't move for ten months of the year?

Oh, they move. They just slow to a crawl the minute moisture hits the pavement. The hilarious part is that most of them are driving enormous SUVs, too. Meanwhile, some webfoot local is screaming past them in a Kia.

in a Kia
not a subaru? i thought they were the dominant autmotive lifeform in the area.

Depending on the crowd one runs with, they can be. I think every Lesbian within a 100-mile radius has owned a Subaru at least at one point.

that certainly casts my seattle-area f(r)iends in an interesting light. :-)
