tonight, we went out for BBQ on the way to another errand.

the iced tea was brewed tea, not a mix, and was a pleasant strength.

the service was adequate.

the mac and cheese was nearly tasteless and undersalted.

C's pulled pork was okay, but nearly cold.

i got ribs. they were covered in a rub that looked like it was made of spices but tasted like just salt. way way too much salt. the meat was dry, firm, and rubbery.

cornbread muffin? rock hard and had a gob of undermixed ingredients inside.

their sauces didn't help with the meat at all.

*sigh* so it looks like Ballard has no real BBQ joint. the Steel Pig and Rhodies are gone. any locals have a favorite for me to try? (i prefer "wet" over "dry", but the key thing for me is extremely tender meat, and sauce that i want to pour on my husband. good cornbread a major plus.)

I would so love a good BBQ place. We keep meaning to hunt for one, and haven't yet. Haven't had good BBQ since PDX, which is sad.

What's the name of the place?

Establishment rejected on name alone.

mmmm BBQ, if you are ever in Orlando, there are three decent BBQ places within a mile of my house. One of em was even featured on the Food Network.

http://www.cecilsbbq.com/ the one featured on Food Network $40 a day.

Mama Williebelle's BBQ in the park at Leschi is my summer fav. R&L on Yesler was a favorite for years. Haven't been since I moved back to the Hill in 2001. Dallas on Jackson is good too. They even have a website: www.dallasbbqseattle.com

Yeah, I wouldn't expect Ballard to be the ideal spot for BBQ. I'm no expert, but there are Texan-approved (or at least accepted) options down here: Mac's (Sodo), Jones (Sodo/Columbia City), Willie's Taste of Soul (Columbia City).

'course, these aren't exactly on your usual routes.

The best I know is one of those "where you least expect it" places: Three Pigs, in a run-down strip mall in Bellevue, about a block north of Whole Foods. The barbecue is wonderful, but they don't have the usual sides, so it's a place to visit just for the barbecue, not the whole experience. (It's also way out of the way for you, and it doesn't have the feel of a place one goes out of the way to visit.)

I am not from the South so I am probably not qualified to judge the worth of any bbq, but I will say that I have always eaten well at the OK Corral in Greenwood.

I'm not a big fan of Dixie's out on the Eastside. The Man Sauce isn't real tasty, it's just hot, and I don't see the point. And the dude totally leched on Victoria, which didn't bother us, but some might be put off.

This is why I love the south end: BBQ and fried chicken everywhere.

Come meet The Man anytime over here on the eastside at Dixie's. Well, okay, they don't have the best hours, but they're excellent for Saturday lunches.
