what is patriotism, but love of the food one ate as a child

today i had my first rambutan. they're a relative of the lychee, similar taste and texture, but a funky purple-red on the outside with sort of curly protrusions. apparently they're newly available in the US. when one of my coworkers saw them i thought he was going to cry - he hadn't eaten one in 12 years.

I had one of those about a month ago! But I forgot what they were called by the time I'd gotten to the check out line. Just like lychees, on the inside. But sooooo expensive!

these weren't terrible - this was a 6x10 foam tray of them for less than six bucks. (considering that's the cost of one custard apple, i'm not too blown away.) apparently i need to head further up the hill to shop; the place that had them was at 12th and Jackson.

I'll have to try those. I love lychees. A friend of mine sent us some lychee black tea from Hong Kong. It is so yummy that it made me swoon.
