we don't make coffee in my house. partly because i'm a tea person who consumes coffee for cultural convenience, but also (at his insistence) to make C think before consuming coffee.* mostly it means that drinking coffee is expensive and we do it anyway.

we've been talking about moving to making our own coffee for economy. the people who make our favorite insulated mugs are doing a kickstarter for a pour-over set. seems like a slam-dunk to me, so i send the link to C and he says "if we can find a good reusable filter".

*blink* *blink* *blink*

that's great, and i agree.

but this is from the dude who asked to get disposable tea bags for the loose-leaf tea because he hates cleaning leaves out of the tea balls or the french press. when i brought up how unlikely he was to care for a reusable filter based on the tea experience, he swore that was never a thing. i've been annoyed about how wasteful the disposable tea bags are for literal years. great, we can stop using the fucking tea bags since we have always been at war with Eastasia. wish i had found this out before i ordered a new package of them.

*the caffeine is bad for his blood pressure and the acid is bad for his digestion.

C has 9 browser windows open, each with more than a dozen tabs.

he has no idea why Roll20 is laggy.

my project this weekend was rehabbing C's old laptop for my use.

we had replaced it years ago due to witnessing some flaky behavior (since C is a freelancer there is a lot of terror around reliable laptop and file backup). there's a long and frustrating story about C keeping it around and furtively using it occasionally, but let's ignore that and be happy that everything he needs to succeed is now on his new computer. while old computer is old, it still has half of its battery cycles left/no dead pixels/no broken keys and as far as i can tell what it really needed was a mind wipe.

i reformatted the drive and did a clean OS install. it had some moments of terror: you don't want to see a grey screen with an international "no" sign on a Mac. mostly it was angry about being restored to any OS other than the one it came with, so i had to learn how to get back down to Lion (well behind where it was when i started the process) then install El Capitan, then jump up to High Sierra.

it also needed a good cleaning. and then i sealed the fraying power cord and replaced the three missing feet with sugru.

continuing our household theme (all computers and most devices are named from Norse mythology) the machine that was once Sleipnir is now Mjolnir.*

i've been cheerfully setting up all the super important things like desktop pictures and custom icons and getting the right stickers on the lid before i settle down to using it for re-education.

when you have a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.

*yes pedants, i know it's Mjölnir but i'm not confident enough to put a diaeresis on the command line.

the unfortunate side effect of getting the 360 back is C watching bad (but not so-bad-they're-good) fantasy movies.

i would like to un-experience every glimpse i have had of The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior.
