"Show me on the screenplay where Russell T. Davies touched you." - C
i love Doctor Who with all my heart. i welcomed the relaunched series with open arms, and i thank RTD for it. but i still have to hate him. we had some good times, but he likes to publicly humiliate my favorite franchise.
RTD isn't all bad as a show runner, but he's directly responsible for the worst writing and story arc decisions.
in no particular order, and focused on Doctor Who:
1) RTD is vulgar (a two-parter of extended fart jokes, pavingstone blowjobs)
2) RTD is a shipper. i'll buy the Doctor/Jack/Rose thing, but not everyone who is oriented toward males should fall for the Doctor. it has to be character driven. it's repetitive, unmotivated, and embarrassing. he sabotaged Martha Jones, and the trailer says he's about to do the same to Donna.
3) it's always the end of the world...
4) ...and the world is Earth.
5) RTD says he's a fan, but he doesn't take the show seriously. nine times out of ten, if a silly solution appears at the last minute, it was pulled out of RTD's ass. it's like he thinks no one is paying attention, because it's a "kids' show".
6) RTD is always ready to sacrifice yesterday and tomorrow for today. for example, i don't have the brain power to retcon the Harriet Jones story arc. (she's gonna be the best Prime Minister ever! new golden age! "Doesn't she look tired?") everyone on Earth remembers or doesn't remember events as is convenient.
7) the end of season 3 and then Voyage of the Damned. first the Doctor is Dobby the House Elf, then Jesus. RTD made me writhe. (and groan, and shout at the television. is that a desired result? and then there's his fat-phobia and classism...)
8) did you think an episode was brilliant? Well, RTD probably didn't write it. (to his credit, he didn't write Daleks in Manhattan.)
9) Jack Harness = Mary Sue.
10) we need to be done with the Daleks for at least an entire season. at least.
this is the super-short version. happy to discuss more, provide other examples, talk about the flaws in Casanova and Torchwood...
