C was sick today. i knew that he wasn't himself, and i tried to get him to stay home, but he actually had to go to work and have his supervisor tell him to leave.
so i caught a ride home and S's mom asked us why we didn't get our paralegal certification so we could make some real money and almost simultaneously, without a moment's thought, we both said "because i don't want to do this for the rest of my life"

who cares if you would be good at something that makes lots more money if you hate it? i've had at least five potential careers that i'd hate over time. of course, i hate what i'm doing now. but it still has many advantages over being everybody's favorite stage manager.

i'll try to remember what they all are later.

if it starts raining again it'll be that i love seattle with all the fervor of a convert.

I've never hated anything I'm talented in, or just never invested enough time in stuff I hate to find out. O.O Whenever I'm good at something the "squee! I'm good at something!" factor kicks in and I don't hate it with as much venom.

well, i do get a deal of pleasure out of a job done right. i get satisfaction out of a desk that's tidy because i've done everything on my list. but that isn't soul food. knowing that a lawyer has a complete set of medical records does provide some satisfaction, but i'm not passionate about it. i used to work in theatre, but the pay was lousy, and the emotional involvement does take its own toll. that's the trade off: i can have a superficial job satisfaction and not get too upset when things go wrong, or I can be really invested and experience high highs and low lows that stick with me through my time off as well as on. i don't know if i'm really ready for that again. but i miss it.
