i went back to sleep after noon today, and slept until my brother calling woke me. and before i knew it, darkness had fallen and the day had been lost, except that it's not that late yet. i need to get myself some artificial sun in place.

the long sleep was due to a late night jaunt to Ballard for Raiders of the Lost Ark at midnight. even though i have every beat of the film memorized, there were a few details that i had never caught before. alas, the skills in the projection booth were lacking, but the inherent charm of the Bay and the quality of the story won out. we're seriously considering a move to Ballard when the lease runs out. Verite Coffee/Cupcake Royale (right next to the Bay) is open to midnight on the weekends, and was packed. street life, new library, live music, great bars, a brewery, a fabric store, pho - there's not much it's missing. okay, there's no theatre in Ballard. but the difference in the rent would more than pay for me to drive or bus to that.

i love shoes. i have many, many pairs, but few of them are delicate or strappy. i like them to be comfortable, and made of something that had to die. i love names like Steve Madden or Dansko rather than Manolo Blahnik or Prada. i spent the afternoon in an ultimately fruitless quest for tall brown boots. because yes, boots are the rage this year. but apparently what i want is not to be had, even from Nordstrom. i seek a pair that rises to just below the knee, leather that is not lined with a manmade substance, an ample toebox, and a color darker than medium (while not being cordovan). all brown boots in downtown Seattle have tiny pointy or square toes, are tan, lined with powerful insulation/some nylon shit, made of plastic, or appear to be made for wear in someplace where it actually snows. i will not be wearing giant shearling Boots of the North in Seattle. okay, there was one pair that might have worked at Fluevog, but i need to pay less than $400. i do need to find them in a physical store and try them on, since Nordstrom's proved that my calves are considered thunderous large in Italy. i did learn that i must have the most popular shoe size in cheap shoes, since all the discount places were picked over. i am not being unreasonable, dammit.

after a few hours of searching, i was consumed by the desire to buy something. i blame the media.

i entered the wonderland that is Sephora and returned with Philosophy spiced apple cider showergel/shampoo and Urban Decay caramel edible sparkly body powder. i smell and taste great. Seattle shoe merchants can eat me.

C has just brought me a cup of tea. he is more wonderful than the perfect pair of shoes.

Friday i discovered that i miscalculated the cuts on the quilt project i'm trying to finish for mom for xmas. but the process of finding something entirely different to do with the fabric i had with T's help was quite fun. i'm looking forward to finishing it, but we've found that the leg on the table where i seat my machine is cracked :(

Thursday i saw Take Me Out at the Rep, and it was pretty much brilliant. then i wrote a review and accidentally deleted it. my only real problem was that all members of the baseball team had no body hair except for the neatly trimmed pubes. are boys with hairy chests/butts/backs more naked than ones without? it's not like it hid the fact that there were penises flying around.

no more weekends before the arrival of [livejournal.com profile] frabjousdave. let the countdown begin.
