for posterity, however embarrassing it may be later:
i wish: Harry dies nobly, and Neville fulfills the prophecy.
what happens: Neville dies nobly or is incapacitated (and then grows up to be Herbology guy) and Harry kills Voldemort and HEA.
i wish: Snape is no friend of Voldemort.
what happens: yup. otherwise, Rowling has reversed what she's taught us in pretty much every book about appearances being deceiving. she's too pedantic for anything else. why? oh, he totally had a thing for Lily, unless JKR pulls something out of her ass.
i wish: Ron is one of the deaths.
what happens: despite the sacrifice the knight foreshadowing, she won't take out any of the three.
more what happens:
Snape and Hagrid die. i think Lupin or Tonks is on the block too. Sirius is not entirely out of the picture; his death was too ambiguous for me. love and having a big heart will save the day rather than being intelligent, wise, or skilled. everybody who lives gets shipped with someone else who lives and many people end up working at Hogwarts and everyone has kids.
i wish:
one of the things i dug about Narnia (don't start) was that Susan grew up and lost interest. people grew and changed and drifted like they do in real life. in Rowling's world we all marry our high school sweethearts and have kids who go to the same school and everything stays the same forever. an entire country is like one tiny inbred town. i'd like to see our heroes retain friendship, but not romance or location. i also want Hermione to have a really kickass life, not being the stay-at-home mom of another pack of Weasleys or a teacher.
