Monday was my last unscheduled day till Sunday, when i have tentative plans. WTF. i truly thought my life might slow down after the long goodbye, but no such luck. i think it's the good kind, and i like that.
happy post-birthday to
weahawk. i'll be wanting a spin with the new wheels. Friday? we have choralography to do with
livingdeadpan. i had a great time Tuesday, as chronicled ably by
mrdorbin and
solcita, and i hope that the Hurricane is a winner. i might be able to come out more often then.
did i ever get to say that DeVotchKa was excellent? the tuba was wreathed in magenta lights, and they left the crowd chanting their name. there's a shirt for me, and CDs for
frabjousdave (if C ever gets to the post office as promised). you can and should look 'em up on kexp.org - they should be in the streaming archive for 11/8 at 8am. (although since i'm at home i can't check how it sounds. dialup.)
i spent this evening in great company - my own, in a nice pub booth writing letters over dinner, and
scarlettina's, for the pretty okay National Treasure. consider it much in the vein of Pirates of the Carribean, and you'll probably be entertained. if you thought the Da Vinci Code was brilliant and compelling, then you'll appreciate this film much more than i did. Sean Bean's in it (and any film that has Sean Bean in it means that i can look at Sean Bean and hear the voice of Sean Bean). it's silly fun that's pretending to be smart fun, but fun all the same. after the movie we stopped at Roti for a bite and talk, where the samosas are huge and the service is downright unctuous.
talked tonight about all the people we know who have been separated from loved ones by international conflict, circumstance, and simple (not so simple) choice. i realized tonight that C and i spent less than half of the first two years of our relationship in the same geographic location. in fact, after exactly 1.5 months, we were separated for four months. but during that time (in the stone age, when i lived where there was NO INTERNET SERVICE) we wrote each other letters. every day. i think our relationship was shaped somehow by that interaction. and this thing has certainly been a part of my friendships in Seattle. so maybe writing down my thoughts and sharing them is part of cultivating healthy relationships in my world. hooray for that.
