Incroyable

ironymaidenmy first encounter with C's new coworkers was just fine. i can tell that i was perfectly welcome, but that they don't have the mad conversation skills when talking to someone with breasts. i do feel inspired to get a few more pieces to bring my army up to around 500 points - i'm thinking all hot chicks and heavy metal. well, the slogan is "play like you've got a pair"...
C took me to Than Bros for dinner last night and i had my first pho. now i must work my way up to the ones with tendons and tripe and such. between this and Green Papaya, i think i may love Vietnamese food best of all the asian things i've tried, and that's saying a lot. now begins the research to recreate that broth at home.
we saw The Incredibles at the Bay, which may become my favorite opening night theater in Seattle. it doesn't have the massive scale of Cinerama, but the main house has a screen of quite respectable size, a perfect rake, and comfy seats. there are two coffee shops by where the line forms, our bank with an ATM is around the corner, and i've always found free parking (when we drove) within two blocks. there's an Austrian curtain over the screen - no ads, no "onscreen entertainment," no cruddy dj talking in the background music. the show always starts with a faux educational film, and the Elttaes Theatres logo thing is based on the classic film of a galloping horse, complete with surround sound. they have managed to make seeing a movie much more of the event i remember from childhood. it helped that the film comes with a sweet musical short.
The Incredibles is stunningly good. five fucking stars good. i have no desire to spoil it for anyone, so i will only say what you will NOT see.
no talking animals
no low characters
no singing, even over the credits
no soon to be dated pop culture referencing
no toilet humor
definitely the best film yet from Pixar, and possibly my favorite animated film ever. we have family dynamics, marriage, comic books, Darwinism - especially what it means to be exceptional in America - impeccably rendered with a strong visual style and crackling writing. the action sequences take George Lucas to school. i'm seriously considering braving the kid crowd to see it again this weekend.
we've already been out running errands and back, and now there will be domesticity until - DeVotchKa! yay.
