so Friday we finally made it back to karaoke at the Bull Pen. i had cheap delicious steak, i learned to play Uno (i know, how is this possible, that i didn't know Uno? i can't play Heart and Soul on the piano either) and i only got one song in. i had a great time hanging out with[livejournal.com profile] livingdeadpan, [livejournal.com profile] miss_swamp, [livejournal.com profile] weahawk, and [livejournal.com profile] caraeileen - and the people watching there is fascinating.

Saturday we ran errands and then canceled all other plans because we were completely beat. it's the kind of thing that we rarely do, and i feel guilty, but justified. but the errands were our Quest for a Real Table. C and i ditched the hand-me-down set we had when we moved here, and currently we have a large IKEA coffee table with extra-tall legs and little stools. we turn thirty this year. so it's time to have some grown-up furniture. well, not too grown up. what we discovered that we agree upon, nay, lust after, is a pub table. while other things we saw appealed, for practical purposes, it needs to be a surface smooth enough for cutting fabric and laying out games and miniatures. i like the tallness for the work surface purpose, too, so that i have the option to, say, stand at the sewing machine. got lots of ideas, saw the price ranges, learned to watch for certain types of construction methods, and discovered the warren of furniture warehouses in southcenter. i'm still leaning towards the stuff we saw at Far Fetched, though. i prefer to support the businesses that operate in the city. i'm not sure when we'll actually buy, but i hope that the Real Table will lead to the dinners and the gaming. contrary to how things have run for the past couple years, we love to have people over to our house. so, a step in that direction.

this morning was brunch at Sapphire. this was our first visit. lovely decor, good food, Caffe Vita coffee, spacey waitress. each meal includes a basket of little pastries and a side of fruit. the fruit was real fruit and not just a pile of cheap melons - i was reminded that pomegranates are now in season. i'd never even seen an actual pomegranate back east, and now for the couple months when they're available i can't resist them. they're even considered low carb because of the fibrous seeds. i had green eggs and ham, with pomegranates, pineapple, oranges, and blueberries on the side. how beautiful is that? as a kid, i would have delighted in the thought of Dr Seuss food, plus binding myself to Hades for six months. green eggs have pesto and scallions. mmmm. and a glass of pineapple juice that was definitely not from a can.

C is off being networky, and i am amusing myself with quilting and the spoils from Netflix. and this thing. tonight brings Treehouse of Horror, on time and unsullied by baseball delays.

I keep passing the pomegranates at the grocery and thinking I should buy one, because I have never eaten a pomegranate...
