this new moon has been something else. i tend to enjoy riding the tide of change, but i don't know how all the people around me feel. opportunity for me, moving for several, a death for another. big stuff.
i auditioned for a trio in chorus last night. it was the kind of scenario i like; everyone i heard could be great, and while i doubt i'll get it, i certainly won't feel like anyone who does didn't deserve it. i had a great time working on the music with [livejournal.com profile] solcita and [livejournal.com profile] weahawk, and i'm very proud of myself since i haven't auditioned for anything in eight years - and i was always a better actor than singer. i've ever been the calm one when it comes to a monologue or cold reading, but singing turns me to jelly...i had a chat with Dimitri about this a while ago. it's fine to be in front of a crowd, not so fine in front of one or two people judging you. anyway, a good experience, if a little rushed.
i couldn't get to sleep last night, and i woke up after too few hours feeling like hell, so i stayed home. i though perhaps i'd get some business done, but after sleeping in an hour and taking a hot bath, i went right back to bed until 3:30. i still need to get nine to nine and a half hours of sleep a night, but my natural rhythm is to wake around 10am and go to bed around 1am. it doesn't go so well with the 8-4:30 job.
in order to stay in Warren's good graces, i went to my scheduled screening of Young Adam. i'm not sure what made it NC-17. maybe Ewan McGregor's flaccid cock, but i think i saw more of Harvey Keitel in The Piano, although he's not as easy on the eyes. i didn't hate it, but the blurb i read misrepresents it as suspense...the pace is languid, and once we spent enough time with the character, i had no real doubt about wether or not he would do the right thing. still, life on a barge in and around Glasgow post WWII was interesting, and i <3 Tilda Swinton. i'm not sure that it's good to be watching a sex scene and thinking, "hey, we have really similar breasts." is that better than being hand twins? apparently it was paid for with money from the Scottish Lottery. some days i curse Robert Mapplethorpe, but really i blame the Puritans. i wonder how the Puritans would feel about our tax dollars being spent on stadiums where drug-fueled sports are watched by a beer-drinking public? well, i suppose they wouldn't get past Piss Christ, but i think his black and white flowers are incredible, as well as the nudes (hold the whip handle, thanks).

in other news, i'm skipping through Legends II, and Anne McCaffrey needs to stop writing yesterday. it's like some fan has her tied up at Dragonhold and is forcing her to write more about Pern on pain of torture.

Hey, it was good to hear your voice at the auditions! :) I don't think I've ever heard it before, and you did fine! It was nice to hear the three of you sing together. And hey, I get nervous at an auditions, too - even on ones like on Tuesday, where, heaven help me, I've sung the song before. It *was* rushed, unfortunately. We'll see how it goes... you should audition for other stuff, too! There are a lot of parts going round. :)
