ironymaidenthere is going to be a live action Thunderbirds movie.
i'm crushed. Thunderbirds were a sort of secret cult for me and my friends in high school. the show was a childhood favorite for my brothers, and they introduced me to the world of supermarionation with a videodisc of Thunderbirds Are Go! (yeah, a videodisc, two sided, in a hard plastic case...my parents still have the machine and about 1000 movies). i passed it on to my compatriots, who already delighted in redubbing tapes of Mister Rodgers and Sesame Street. we were fascinated by the motion, the music, the remarkably good little action spy story and the charming models. i thought all the Tracy boys were hot. and Brains. and Lady Penelope.
those Orbitz commercials caused a flurry of transcontinental phone calls.
we used to love to say "FAB" because its meaning was mysterious to us. i still don't know what it stands for...but none of it will be obscure anymore. it makes me sad in a way. but then again, it'll be easier to find the stuff from the old show, and maybe it'll get them on tv. that would be cool.
