the_monkey_king's concern about Christian Reconstructionists dovetailed with my discovery of some Christian secessionists.

the idea is to get a bunch of like-minded voters to concentrate in one state to shape policy and eventually secede from the US. at first i was appalled at the idea of co-opting the system to such an extreme, but then i thought, hey, i never liked any of the candidate states anyway...and then the most fervent would move out of the rest of the country. and that's good for America.

we have here a group protesting the "federal guidelines" that keep prayer out of schools, while they are ready to use the same to stop gay marriage, abortion, and freedom of religion.

freedom from state religion is what brought Pilgrims, Puritans, Quakers, Anabaptists, and Jews here. christian fundamentalist splinter groups could only develop here, where they are allowed to openly organize what would be considered treasonous anywhere else. but i'm wondering what kind of economy they would have, and how would they do any of the things the Feds used to pay for? do they understand that the wealth of the nation does get redistributed in its fashion? i don't know what resources they have and what they'd need to import. perhaps they can do some sweetheart manufacturing deals with multinationals featuring low low wages and child labor. would the tax structure involve tithing?

and where is this "pagan democracy" anyway? i would so move there.

Hmm. Did these successionists steal the idea of taking over a state's politics from the libertarians by importing large quantities of believers, or vis versa?

Although slavery is supposedly what drove the Civil War, the real issue that got brother killing brother was secession.

As much as I'd like to see the wacko fringes off in some other country, it would tear our nation apart like nothing else could. Scary.

Maybe they just need to move? Maybe we could export them to Israel or something?

brother killing brother was really "states' rights". and so i am desperately amused by the gay marriage furor leading to a curtailing of states' rights by the very people who champion them when things go their way. it is really scary. even more scary to think that Heinlein predicted the rise of the Christian right in politics decades ago.

the Israel thing isn't an entirely bad thought, but i think these are the Jews killed Jesus kinda people.
