noting this so that i don't lose it.
finished Wise Man's Fear tonight. it is long and rambly and never gets to the point if there is a point, but i enjoyed it a great deal. why this book was delightful and the similarly rambly Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell was enragingly tiresome is something that i'm trying to tease apart.
my brain has shaken off that Clarke book for the most part. what i remember is a tease of promise and then a whole lot of dull nothing. arguably the Rothfuss books are the same. yet for some reason this is my kind of tease.
today's theory:
our hero is having an effect on the environment rather than being manipulated by the environment.
