i don't want to watch the magic schoolbus

my senior year of college, we arrived for the spring semester and it was snowing. the next morning, the state declared a state of emergency. first time in my life: the governor told everyone to stay home or get fined. the snowfall was epic. and there we were, trapped in the dorms, with a snow day.

and we hadn't started class yet, so we had no homework, no reading, no books.

we couldn't dig out our cars.

we had nothing to do. it was the worst snow day ever, where it wasn't a welcome break and the weather was so genuinely nasty that we couldn't even build a snowman.

there was nothing on tv.

i was with a bunch of creative people and we couldn't think of a thing to do.

we were in a nothing storm.




i'm done with snow day in Seattle.

The other tenants in my building were mostly knockin' boots. I heard several joyful noises as I headed down to do laundry. Later in the afternoon, there was vacuuming. The electric meters are also by the laundry room, and as I saw only a few meters turning at speed, I wondered if those people were watching TV.

C made it to the office. i was supposed to be working from home, and the VPN kept conking out. i was very restless, and i had already gone for a walk, taken pictures of the snow, and done coffee shop time. i finished my book. i picked up around the house. i fussed with Facebook. i talked on the phone with coworkers because we were having trouble with the VPN. it went from idyll into dullsville.

Assuming you mean PA, I remember that storm. I was at CMU. We had windchill in the -30 or something totally ridiculous. The governor ordered everything closed b/c the power grid was strained due to trying to keep up with the heating demand.

I remember my roommate's parents drove up from Cleveland b/c they were afraid we were going to freeze to death or something.

That was a sucky snow day. Though that whole winter pretty much sucked for me due to other things. Bleh.

I always feel slightly anxious working from home, like I should be doing more. I don't know why, really. Atmosphere, I guess.

But every time I hear Miz Frizzle say Get dirty! it reminds me of those shots of Lilly Tomlin with long armpit hair, and then I have to go get myself off.
