Download Day

Firefox 3 officially releases today.

i signed up to be part of Download Day, a push to set a Guinness record for software downloaded in 24 hours. start time 10am PST.

i'm hoping this is a sign of success: i can't get to mozilla.com or .org, firefox.com or .org, spreadfirefox...

*sigh*

world records are nice & all, but i'm going to wait a few days before i download. gives the ubuntu crowd a chance to check for compatibility, etc...

i've been using a beta on one of the machines at home. the only thing wrong so far is that the add-ons aren't all compatible.

i'd heard a while back that there was a small but significant problem running FF3 on *nixen, and that the ubuntufolk would thus be using a slightly modified version.

today is also a bad day to attempt to download any of the add-ons (extensions, themes, search adds )

Boing Boing is recommending using PirateBay to torrent it.

From the live blogging I saw, they were running around 14400 downloads a minute, which I think translates into fractional terabytes a minute.

IMAO, they're doing ok.

That the goddamn thing'll make it easier for me to open pdfs. And yes, I've giyf'd it... hrmf hmf hmm. Thanks for the heads up, and unlike everybody else, I actually was unaware.
