But isn't one pleasure of anime appreciation the pleasure of complaining about how things are never as good as they were or could have been? For that, you need to endure the pain of watching it-- particularly with your talk-during-the-movie-'cause-it's-just-a-DVD friends who "just like it" in spite of everything-- to break on through, to reach that pleasurable fury that awaits at the end of two wasted hours of your life that you'll never get back. I waited twenty-two years to see Matsumoto's Arcadia of my Youth a second time, and the friendly clerk wished me luck corrupting my children.
I'm very happy with Maison Ikkoku, Kimagure Orange Road, Planetes, Eva (as it stands), Macross and many other shows.
Having seen 1.0, I really don't think much of worth has been added. But I wasn't really shocked at that, I knew what I was getting into when I watched it.
