what's really happened is that Vogue sizes have not changed over time, where stuff you buy in the store has been adjusted for the way humans have gotten generally larger in the last 60 years. the cool thing about Vogue staying the same is that you can buy a vintage pattern and it will make up exactly like a brand new one of the same size.

patterns always supply measurements on the outside. you have to buy for your hip and chest measurements and kind of ignore the sizes on the front.
