the toughest thing about Giftmas is holding onto presents until the proper time. i'm reasonably good at sneaking and plotting, but my enthusiasm screws me up. "item X is awesome! i want C to have it Right Now!" i gave him a present back in October because i couldn't stand to know that i had it and he couldn't use it. (a Sansa Rhapsody, glad i got it then since it looks like all the 8GB ones are gone now, for which he periodically continues to thank me. he uses it every day. score!)

is it creepy that i get an ego boost from seeing stuff i chose greeted with enthusiasm? (and a little sadness if i miss, or don't hit hard enough...last year's bottle of Tokaj is still untouched in the back of the fridge.)

This is a problem around here too. "I found a cool thing! Happy Tuesday!"

i see nothing creepy in the idea that when C is suddenly happier, you get happier too.

Every time a little piece of my soul dies...

I'm always hurt when the gift I gave (especially the handmade or shopped-the-ends-of-the-earth-for gifts) is not appreciated.
If the gift is loved it's almost like a drug - a high that I need more of.

And I want to give it all to them RIGHT NOW because I know they would love it RIGHT NOW. Like what I got [livejournal.com profile] crooked_spruce.

not creepy at all. It's awesome to get the perfect gift for your loved one. It's like if romance is science, gifting is technology.

And yeah, I've given crap gifts too, and I get a bit bummed about it.

I never have trouble waiting until the designated gifting day, though. I am a slave to convention.

I can't hold it back either. I've already told the Wookiee what he is getting for Christmas (a holiday he doesn't like in the first place) cause I just couldn't help it.

He doesn't actually get it till next week though. :)

Dessert wines can be difficult. I've been wanting to open one of our bottles of Vin Santo from Italy since last New Years, but we just have never had a large enough appreciative gathering to enjoy it while it's just-opened and still good.

Last night we finally opened a bottle of port that [livejournal.com profile] pedantka brought us in. . . spring of 2005 or 2006?

About half of my gifts have been unwrapped already. I LOVE it when I see I done good.

I'll share my Landmark passes* with you guys if you share the Tokaj. Except that it would take about a year's supply of movie passes to be worth a sip of the stuff large enough to taste, if the stuff is as expensive as it's reputed to be.

Just out of curiosity, what was the inspiration for the gift? His Dark Materials, the game Traveller, or something else?

* They expire at the end of the year, before my wife comes home. Landmark is soft on enforcing expiration dates, but I don't like to push it.

Wine or not, using up the tickets before I have to beg them to fudge the expiration date would be cool. I'll e-mail more on the topic.
