somebody asked
Aug. 15th, 2003 11:39 pmi grew up in PA and you can't beat the produce here, but there's no Dunkin Donuts in the entire state.
i love gray weather, i hope you do too. the rain is frequent in what they call winter here, but rarely heavy and never all day long. it's often bright, but only blue skies in summer. i never dress for colder weather here than a high school football game in the northeast. the school year nights are loooong. the summer days are eternal and perfect, no humidity to speak of and NO BUGS
people here are "consensus driven"-it really gets up my nose. there are remarkably few fat people.
they aren't as serious about work here
clothes are casual
there are lots of interracial couples and multiracial kids, but the downtown is low on black folks
people wait in line for the library to open
they like it when you play in the public fountains
the scallops are huge
people are nice
you can walk the streets at night in more neighborhoods than not, and except for the downtown core, seattle is more a collection of small towns that have grown together...i couldn't wrap my eastern head around all the pretty little houses with yards
buses in downtown are free
there are lots of good parks
there's a lot of wifi available
no income tax
killer sales tax though.
Starbucks is the bad coffee.
traffic is really bad on the highway, especially going in or out of the city. driving in city is ok, but it's cheaper to ride the bus than pay for parking. i walk a lot, but you really can go up hill both ways here, and they're serious hills.
i have yet to have someone visit when Mt Rainier was clearly visible like in all the pictures. but it does happen, just like that.
i love it and i sometimes take the ferry or water taxi and get teary looking at how beautiful it is.
But that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.
