last night was our first saga edition Star Wars game. pirate A is the GM, and asked to meet at our house for the central location, the table, and the nearness of important things like sources of beer and caffeine.

i was a little nervy about the whole thing. um, every other person involved works in the industry. it's not my first time in this situation, but each time is like the first outdoor swim of the season, with the dread and the physical shock before the pleasure. and a pleasure it was. the saga version of the D20 rules are a snap to play, and the standard character sheets are designed with care in a way that lets the "roll-playing" happen quietly under the roleplaying, with a surprisingly small amount of rifling through the rule book for the first use of a system. A handled pacing well, and a party of six was not as unwieldy as i feared. we fell into roleplaying decisions and relaying info in character like we'd been meeting weekly for years. slick. we ate all the beef stick, but the apple slices went first. (still slightly stunned at that one.)

i will try to not blither about my character. but i need to come up with a name for my ship, which i may or may not be able to get out of the spaceport. i'm afraid A let me have it to start because he planned to take it away all along...

and no, jilted players, i have not forgotten about the D6 game that stuttered to a halt months ago...but C has a lot on his plate and the pirates were highly persistent in pursuing this one :(

There was a small matter of Kenya that helped to derail things. . .

You know, I accept it that [livejournal.com profile] mimerki blames the Nav for many things that go wrong. I don't really recall you earning that right though.

I wasn't trying to assign blame - just pointing out there were significant player scheduling issues beyond the control of the game master. ;)

Iain Banks' Culture novels are a good source for these:

I'm partial to "Frank Exchange of Views," myself.

I was always partial to the name [livejournal.com profile] jhanastarblade (<-- SWRPG character name, BTW) used for hers - the Requiem.

Ship Names...

Where did the famous table originate, anyhow? It didn't happen to be Don Willis Furniture (http://www.donwillisfurniture.com/index.html), did it?

(I just found them online and they look fantastic and I note a showroom is near your house.)
