i wish: Harry dies nobly, and Neville fulfills the prophecy. what happens: Neville dies nobly or is incapacitated (and then grows up to be Herbology guy) and Harry kills Voldemort and HEA. not bad. Harry dies nobly, Neville does the thing required to fulfill the prophecy, *and* Harry lives to kill Lord V and Neville is Herbology guy. loved the Griffindor sword still coming when it's needed.
i wish: Snape is no friend of Voldemort. what happens: yup. otherwise, Rowling has reversed what she's taught us in pretty much every book about appearances being deceiving. she's too pedantic for anything else. why? oh, he totally had a thing for Lily, unless JKR pulls something out of her ass. dead on. that said: Snape's death was lousy, and i thought that with six books of build the Lily relationship should have been more complex. this guy died over a crush? a crush he never got over? i thought he was being set up as someone really interesting, and it was all hollow.
i think i should have skipped reading the epilogue. at least they didn't make everyone a prof at Hogwarts.
Dobby. that bitch. those were my tears of loss for the book.
that said, the punches were pulled on the deaths like they have been all along. remember all the hype that led to dead Cedric Diggory? so what? much as i loved Remus, he was a redshirt from day one. declaring H a godfather put him on the away team. i do appreciate that the dead stay dead, but GRRM has cranked up my literary masochism. she didn't hit me hard enough. which leads me to wonder if that restraint came under editorial pressure...
yeah reading that dobby was killed pissed me off...the others, well you had to figure one of the twins would go, remus and tonks i knew were in deep trouble cause of the baby..
Although I did enjoy the whole thing even the epilogue, know I will be in the minority on that one.
I think my greatest annoyance was that there were acts of heroism going on, sacrifices being made, etc, and we were busy watching Harry look for a trinket. Characters I cared about died off stage while Harry was annoying.
Also, I have figured out precisely why I hate Ron. He is totally lacking in an actual moral compass. He never does something because it's the right thing to do. He always does it for what are essentially selfish reasons and no one ever calls him on it.
i told scarlettina that the setting and plot have trumped the characters. it's not like any of the trio have grown or changed in the last couple books.
i get what you're saying about Ron, right down to the damn driving test at the end.

The epilogue just made me angry.
