if you are not already aware, a large increase in royalty rates for webcasting music in the US will go into effect July 15. payments are retroactive to January 2006. if you listen to internet radio that originates in the US, you are likely to be affected by this as the costs will close small outfits and curtail free services. (i'm talking about things like Pandora, Rhapsody, KEXP, and Radio Paradise to name a few.)

i have a thank you off to my Representative for his efforts to stop the new rules from taking effect (HR 2060). the Senate version of the bill is in the Judiciary committee right now. if you are represented by a member of the Judiciary committee, please consider taking the time to send them an email or make a call to request that they speed S. 1353 along.
