How about Gaius Baltar on trial? Starbuck apparently dead? Apollo has left the service?

This season is much better :>

How about Gaius Baltar on trial?

What did it do to advance the story? The sum total was Lee's excellent speech from the stand. Roslyn's cancer could've been revealed in any number of other interesting ways, the conflict between Adama and Lee was extant, and the defense lawyer blended back into the background.

In other words: No lasting impact. I predict that by the season premiere we'll have forgotten all about it, and it won't be mentioned more than twice in the next season by any character, if it ever is.

The prediction of the former VP of "tearing the fleet apart" didn't happen—nor should they have because the very idea was silly.

What it did do was introduce entirely ridiculous Baltar worshippers. It makes No Sense. What was to come of Baltar? Where does he go/live/do? Very good question. I was much looking forward to the answer. But really the answer was a plot device. :(

Starbuck apparently dead?

Ghost of Christmas past style? And suicide on top of that? Lame. And, as we know from the finale: Not Dead, which makes it yet even more lame.

Apollo has left the service?

I said in my own LJ that that would last two episodes. I was wrong—it was just the one. It was very much to do about nothing.

I have to admit that I predict the impact will show up later -- rather than in the short term. What I like most about this season so far is the relative lack of emo -- which bores the hell out of me.

There's been some stellar performances -- from Apollo, Adama, Roslyn and others -- and I like that as well. Gaius being reintroduced to the population provides an interesting opportunity as well.

I suspect we're just hoping to get different things out of the show, so while I'm finding it interesting and intriguing, it's frustrating you.

Should not care.

The finale was ass.

I was just listening to the exec. producer's podcast, wherein he said that they purposefully kept the cylons out of the picture this season so they could have a big comeback in the season finale.

A) Keeping them out of the series has severely weakened the series.

B) They did not have a big comeback. In fact, they merely appeared.

Also, this season kept introducing another and another facet to the mythology that went unexplained and inexplicable. Remember the cylon that Baltar kept seeing but no one else could see? One of that model, Six, was captured by the colonialists—and she sees Baltar the way Baltar sees her.

Why? How? No reason or hint of reason given.

Starbuck was suddenly given a secret destiny. She drew multicolored swirls in her youth and wouldn't you know it, the fleet stops to refuel at a gas giant with the same swirly. She suicides after having a ghost-of-christmas-past vision/experience in the cockpit of her viper with the ghost played by a cylon that kept her hostage and made her think she had a daughter.

What?

Episode before last, some of the crew kept hearing music. Why? Who knows.

In the finale, the people who hear the music all converged in the same room, following the music. Upon this, they all immediately conclude that they're cylons.

Why? With all the other supernatural things going on, why immediately jump to that conclusion? After all, if Starbuck can draw swirlys, suicide—then come back for the finale, I'd cycle through a few other explanations first.

And to top it all off, the music that they kept hearing was, of all things, a Jimi Hendrix song. They even quoted lyrics. I just now found out that it was a Hendrix song (just now because my music knowledge is particularly woeful). Are they hearing actual Earth music? Well, I guess they have to be.

But ... how? Why? What's going on?

More importantly: I've ceased to care as much as I did. BSG used to be jaw-droppingly good.

It's not any more. This season tanked it.

As I wrote in my own LJ, I'll watch the season premiere in 2008 but more out of morbid curiosity.

I wonder... It might be good to buy last season on DVD, then next season, but skip this season altogether and pretend it never happened.

Sounds like two very different reactions -- i was much more intrigued this season than last and am having a good time with the curve balls they're throwing.

Either way -- next season should prove interesting :>.

Why yes -- just near the end -- that's been put back into play again. I've been more interested with more *things* happening and less emo. But remember, I *like* Law&Order *because* it doesn't spend all it's time in the private lives of our people. I liked the District for the same reason.

I thought it was clumsy, but excelled in places, in particular, during one nifty scene where Apollo testifies at Baltar's trial.

It turns into this great ranty scene where Lee basically recaps his entire emotional reaction to everything that happened in the show. I thought that bit was superb and justified the episode.

However, the Cylon mythology has been getting a bit dopey, and has the potential to get even dopier. Starbuck and a bunch of other people are all tied into that now.
