i've been cruising through the full catalog of Chick tracts for a Halloween-related project. i was a casual collector for years, but the massive amount of anti-Catholic topics blew me away. (i expected him to be hating Islam and any other religions.)

Yep, there's a whole crowd of fundies to whom 'Catholic or Christian' is a valid distinction.

Not just fundies. My parents grew up with suggestions that Catholics weren't real Christians. I think someone somewhere just forgot to teach people the difference between Catholic and Protestant.
