books, an irresistable meme
Sep. 1st, 2006 11:07 ama preface: the most horrific Twilight Zone episode is Time Enough at Last. there is no horror in a tall TBR pile. it is the best of all possible worlds. so far, only writers think this is untrue. (people who do not read are subhuman, and do not enter the discussion.) writers are free to spend their time producing, i will read their quota. gimme!
One book that changed my life:
no laughing. The Mists of Avalon. it was my introduction to the very idea of a pagan europe (not "foo myths"), matrilineal descent, sex-positive religion. it challenged everything that i had been told about the way the world works. that and Stranger In a Strange Land pretty much blew away my conservative christian upbringing.
One book that you've read more than once:
just one? WTF people? at random, The Snow Queen by Joan D. Vinge.
One book you'd want on a desert island:
something about desert island survival or shipbuilding and navigation. come on.
One book that made you laugh:
Hogfather by Terry Pratchett
One book that made you cry:
Transformation by Carol Berg
One book you wish you had written:
if i was writing books i would be all bitchy about how many there were to read. no thanks.
One book you wish had never been written:
scarlettina has already mentioned the Worst. Sequel. Ever. (Children of God *shudders*) but the book i was forced to read and hated was The Red Pony by John Steinbeck. i hated every second of that story and i hate the stupid characters in it and the decisions they made. eeeevil.
One book you're currently reading:
i finished Scardown by Elizabeth Bear this morning and am trying to figure out if "in transit" on my hold means that Worldwired will get to the library today or if i have to buy it before i expire from not knowing What Happens Next.
One book you've been meaning to read:
i'm eagerly awaiting Bad Monkeys.
