Michael Bay is ruining my childhood. Bumblebee is a yellow VW Beetle, not a bitchin' camaro. what's next? a semi is too blocky to be Optimus Prime? Soundwave is too retro to appear?

Takara/Hasbro - the makers of the Transformers toy line actually had a prototype of a VW Bumblebee (http://tfkenkon.com/g/albums/BTC%20Complete%20Guide/bumblebee01.jpg) ready to go, but VW wouldn't give out the licensing because they didn't want to associate with a "war toy."

i can respect that. but he still needed to be something small and rounded. there are lots of little hatchbacks out there now; it was so great that he wasn't a sports car.

....and even I *HATE* that idea... honestly... and the whole "its going to look really like what a transforming car would look like" is such a lame fucking excuse... hell if the damn TOY could do it, they can animate the transformation in CGI...

Apparently, Mr. Bay doesn't like the size-changing aspect of the Transformers, either. So, for example, Megatron is going to be a jet and not a gun. Another rumor has Soundwave (or a Soundwave-esque character) who transforms and is really, really small. Oh, and Optimus Prime is going to be a longnose instead of a cabover, because, apparently, he's taller and more imposing in robot form as a longnose. That change, at least, doesn't really bother me, although if they make him anything other than red I might cry.

Actually, I doubt I'll pay money to see this travesty. The thought of Bumblebee as anything other than a Beetle breaks my heart. :\

Ugh, I don't care if the Transformers look as if they are actually morphing from a car to a robot. I care that it's a live action of something I loved when I was a kid.

Thus Bumblebee should stay a Bug, and the movie people can figure it out. I've seen whole households loaded into those damn things.
