This is a twist on the Letter Meme. Instead of coming up with ten items for a certain letter, you come up with five song titles for a certain letter and explain why you picked them. If interested then leave a comment. I'll give you a letter. You post this blurb in your journal along with your list.
scarlettina gave me L.
Lemon Tree: part of going anywhere in the car with my Dad is singing. when i was little our favorite 8-tracks to warble along with were The Best of Peter, Paul, and Mary and Kenny Rogers' Greatest Hits. i liked Lemon Tree even better than Puff the Magic Dragon.
The Long Black Veil: i love songs that tell stories. this is the song that i would most like to use in a noh fusion piece. the ghost narrating the story of their death is a common one, and if i couldn't get live performers i would probably have to use the Chieftains' version to get the flute and drums. (second in line is Stretched on Your Grave by Sinead O'Connor; people die a lot in noh. it also has a chant-y structure...)
Life Uncommon: i've never actually heard the Jewel version. i first heard a small ensemble from SLGC sing an amazing choral arrangement. later feeling its effect on the crowd at a marriage equality rally was stunning. i've since been lucky enough to perform it myself. i love it.
The Little Things You Do Together: this is the signature song from Company. i was always a good actor; i started taking voice lessons specifically so that i could make it into a college musical cast. i did it. (in the process i discovered that i like to keep my acting and singing separate.) it's also a pretty sharp set of lyrics about LTRs.
London Bridge: a signature piece by The Clumsy Lovers. there isn't a studio version of the way the song wanders in and out of a cover of Stir It Up in performance. you'd have to be there.
You are the thought that stretches
From sleep to wake
You leave me falling down
Like London Bridge in an earthquake
