oh, I don't know -- I'm in a pretty good mood today -- almost rapturous. And I'm listening to Blondie -- does that count?

Don't give up hope! The day is not over!

the term "rapture" is usually applied specifically to the belief that Christians will be taken into heaven prior to the Second coming of Christ, and there will be a period of time where non-Christians will still be left on earth before Christ arrives to set up his earthly kingdom.

Why would we let Jesus set up this kingdom if the world was left to us by default when the righteous departed?

"Too bad for you I'm not meek, like the people you said would inherit the earth, huh? Possession is 9/10ths of the law. GET OUTTA MY YARD!"

"Well, we should have the rapture!"

"Not in my back yard!"

I was approached by a mom at school this morning about that (yes, my kids attend a *gasp* Christian school) and was all happy and delighted that today is the day.

Two questions I posed for our dear deluded mom - 1. Are we certain that God has the roman calendar hanging on his wall (with pictures of kitty cats in hats) instead of following the julian calendar or perhaps the Islamic calendar or maybe the french revolutionary calendar, and 2. What if it already happened and you aren't as pious as you thought?

She already doesn't like me, so adding some more fuel to the gossip fire was my gift to her.

She actually wanted the Rapture to be today? She didn't keep her kids home?

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaybe

Odds are high I won't see either of my fathers there (long story), but my mom's a good lock.

Kids are tricky with doctrines, because it's hard to be without sin when you are also without culpability. But the modern entrance exam of bread , wine, and a nice dunking says that the Kingdom of Heaven will be nice and crowded.

Me, I'm wondering if they get cable. Because really, all the good stuff done by a lot of the fun people in my life just won't be around. Also, I'm paid up through next year on some of my accounts, and I'd hate to leave perfectly good credit behind.

Assuming I make the cut, that is.

But maybe she should have had them at home, all sitting in the living room praying and speaking in tongues.

Unbelieving brats, perhaps?

I know. That's what I thought. But then, we're dealing with those strange "holy roller" types. Maybe she thought having her kids at Christian school would aid in their ascension?

That sucks!

If it's the rapture, I'd call in sick for 'em at least.

That math lesson won't really be that important will it?

Let's fire up Sonic the Hedgehog!

I was going to say "maybe we Christians are wrong and the Muslims had it right the whole time. Or maybe the Jews." but that would have lead to finding myself being strung up on the nearest tree.
