1. raise at least one healthy, sane, and really well-trained dog. 2. do side crow with ease. 3. take C to Europe. 4. make a great pie crust. 5. be completely debt-free.
i can have the occasional piece of pie in a couple months. what it really means is scheduling a training session with my mom. i know it's cliched to think that your mom makes the best version of a certain food item, but i have never tasted a pie crust to rival it. i can get a copy of the recipe, but what i can't get is technique. i'm too much of a kinesthetic learner to get it all from a book or even a video. i think mom and i are both old and slow enough now that we won't kill each other in the process, which is one of the reasons i've never learned. the last time i watched her do it she moved so fast that i'm not even sure she can break it down into steps (she also measures ingredients in the palm of her hand) but i don't want this particular bit of skill to perish like my grandmother's bread and butter pickles. grandma was so dissatisfied with the way mom handled the cucumbers that she took the knife away and kicked mom out of the kitchen; grandma refused other attempts and took the technique to her grave.
