the IKEA Cycle
Nov. 9th, 2005 06:09 pmcaveat:i love site specific plays, and i haven't been to as many shows here as i want.
the IKEA Cycle is the best thing i've seen in Seattle (and it wasn't in Seattle). well-paced, well-written, solidly acted. the three scenes from Monday (out of a potential 13) were, indeed, tiny domestic dramas. a couple has a talk before bed about hiring the ex-wife to plan their housewarming party, a lonely telemarketer working from home breaks into song, and a woman comes home to find the neighbor kid in the kitchen eating her Crunch Berries. each little scene is in a little set, where the tags are on every item, and children are whizzing by focused on their miniature shopping carts. IKEA is ripe for this sort of thing; i have fond memories of playing in a childhood friend's family furniture store and can attest to the way the environment sparks the imagination. confused passerby can only add to the delight of singing about telemarketing.
really.

Date: 2005-11-10 05:26 am (UTC)Tonight's my night to go to bed early, but I live in Renton. If I'd read the reviews sooner and learned how short the thing was, I'd totally have gone.
Will there be a next time?
