it has been a perplexing sort of week, and that's all that needs to be said here. i feel good about decisions made and plans in motion. while the house is far from together, i catch glimpses of a home out of the corner of my eye and it feels good.

it's been a big week for personal mail. i was delighted to receive a fat envelope today - some Nice lady sent me tea. not just any tea, but shin-cha, which is made from the first leaves of spring. the english subtitle on the bag is "brown rice tea with matcha," and this more accurately describes its appearance - a mixture of roasted rice (some popped like popcorn), tea leaves, and vivid green powder. i'm not a big fan of genmaicha because it's always tasted like overdone popcorn to me, but in this blend the rice was a nutty note, not dominant. brewed, the drink is an almost electric green, and leaves a trail of vivid dust in the cup. while i've been known to sully green tea with sweetners, i'm not tempted to mask this one. it has arrived just in time for my fall upswing in tea consumption.

the bag it came in is sparkly, but it happened to hold the perfect amount of tea to fill my empty canister. i am loath to throw the bag away. marketing looks so much better in kanji.

in other news, i'm working through my big bag of swag from CascadiaCon, and will probably finish the novel i started this morning on the bus before bed tonight.

it's tempting to make some comment about "the bus before bed tonight", but i'm going to resist the temptation.

If I had known you weren't big on the genmai-cha I would have sent a non-rice version. But I have only tried the ricey tea...
