C and I went to NW Bookfest today, because we would have anyway, and because
frabjousdave was on a last minute addition panel. Dave noticed that the crowd was sparse. well, it wasn't marketed at all, and it went from "suggested donation" last year to $10 to get in this year. i got my picture taken in this wierd Target book chair. we didn't get near as much swag as you get at Seattle Cooks, and C never did find the Chicago Manual he wanted, but that book chair was cool.
we got three books at half price - Conditioning for Outdoor Fitness and Don't Get Sick: The Hidden Dangers of Camping & Hiking from Mountaineers, and Rodney Yee's Yoga book from some other stand. i also found not just a copy, but a signed copy, of Hansa for my nephew the Animal Planet freak. and then a free "reviewer's copy" novel, which i paged thru a little tonight, and it is utter, utter, crap. i may OCR & post some tidbits. looks like all those posts on
craftgrrl about making boxes and purses out of hollowed out books may be more useful than i thought.
the panel was good, but the sound was terrible; i think the event should be at Seattle Center in the Northwest Rooms, so at least there would be a reasonable acoustic and semi-competent sound support. if i was a speaker, i'd be miffed.
we were tired, so we headed for the bus, rather than out and ended up being picked up on the way to the stop. (C was thinking about the name conversation, and i agree. if the audience doesn't overlap, as had been proven, then it really doesn't matter. be yourself and be proud. look at Billy Wilder's filmography sometime - it's another sort of studio system)
i guess i'm still not getting that extra sleep, but it' s so good to be home. it was a nice day, and i have sugar-free syrup for my morning sausage.

Date: 2003-10-19 01:16 pm (UTC)i'd guess that your local readership had no idea you were there, and someone will be really happy to find those gold stickers down the road.
the other thing is that the moderation was quite good, and i didn't feel like there were a lot of questions left to be asked. i suppose if i think of another i'll just ask you anyway.
