Love, Actually

is sweet, and in the words of [livejournal.com profile] frabjousdave, cherry cheesecake. i love cherry cheesecake, and while this was not the instant jello kind, it wasn't quite my sister's either (and my sister is the mistress of chesecake).

there was only one surprise in the film, but all the nonsurprises felt good going down. it's really designed as the perfect break from Christmas shopping, and it should find an audience in the people who aren't watching ROtK or the Matrix. it is delightful to hear Liam Neeson's own dialect. dreamy, actually. Hugh Grant was the same guy he always is. i was surprised that Billy Bob Thornton's slick asshole president of the US made it into the tailored for America cut (merry christmas, my ass). i wasn't really moved by it, but it was warm, fuzzy, and charming, and i shall recommend it to my parents, who will adore it, i'm sure. (other favorites of theirs include Notting Hill and the
Sabrina remake with Harrison Ford)

i ended the evening with five men and a Maker's Mark on the rocks.
