The Human Stain
Nicholas Meyer is one of the great secret talents in America. he took a book i'm sure i would never slog through, reorganized it, and condensed it into a film that the director assures us maintains the voice of the author. pretty cool, and while he's worked on hugely popular and artisitically successful projects, he isn't a household name.
it was my first Warren Report event and first trip to the Harvard Exit. both were quite lovely and i wasn't as distracted by technical issues as my companion (nor back pain).
anything i say will be a spoiler. the "big surprise" was the thing i got right away from the publicity blurbs. what is great is that Tony Hopkins does a sweet love scene and is a charming dancer, as is Gary Sinese. Nicole Kidman is the great skinny actress. Anna Devere Smith (along with most of the rest of the cast) supports my assertion that there is no better training for an actor than the stage. the ensemble work was smooth and even, and it was funny. funny.
we skipped out on part of the post-show thing with the director, and joyfully low-carb thai food followed.
