second session on my tattoo is complete.

fire-lizard count is up to five; the gold, green, and blue have their main color pass. we've planned out the color choices for the bronze and brown. the linework on the most-sensitive part of my arm went fine. i think there *might* have been more pain than elsewhere but not in the significant way i was led to believe.* (i assume that color there will be a different experience.)

next month, the bronze, the brown, background. (she's planning to draw the background spiral waves freehand on my arm.) i suspect that it may take more than one more session to complete but i'm happy to be surprised.

original linework (upper arm with two fire-lizards, one holding a fish)

same area with the original two colored blue and green, fish in violet, and a new third fire-lizard line work

we've been joking that the entire upper arm is designed to frame that fish (because we're both in love with it)

forearm with climbing gold fire-lizard

there are some insane fine details that probably will blur out over time, but the general shapes should hold well, which is all i need for the long haul. like, each one has specific colors for their claws and eyes. i'm glad i decided to take a flyer on an early-career artist, she's so excited and thoughtful and pushing her edges.

*apparently that's a common spot for twitching, frequent breaks, etc. my artist said that area is particularly painful for her. i've been told that my pain tolerance is high and i heal quickly but as i only know my own experience i'll have to take that on faith. it's a weird thing to think about for me; i do wonder sometimes if, for example, my history of mild to nonexistent menstrual pain isn't that i don't have classic cramps but that i don't feel them.

Wow! These are from the paperback covers of the Dragonsong books, right? I LOVE these (and these are always how fire lizards looked to me). How beautiful.

Beautiful work! I love the subtlety of the colors. I think it will blur in interesting ways. If you want more crispness, you can always get it touched up later down the road. C did that once with his parrot.

This is fantastic! Ah, I was such a fan of the dragons of Pern back in the day, what a great idea for a tattoo!
