Thursday's child has far to go

for the Carpe Diem challenge:
as Disney mines Star Wars for content, there's one story/time period that i want: the Mandalorian Civil War/Great Clan Wars. it's a fuzzy area in canon, somewhere prior to 32 BBY (The Phantom Menace); based on references in The Clone Wars we know that Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon were involved. there's so much potential beyond the obvious playing out of the events and relationships mentioned in Voyage of Temptation.* what were the clan dynamics, how did the Kryze sisters end up on opposite sides of the conflict, what happened to Duchess Kryze's family? there's lots of room for exploring the New Mandalorians, the rise of the Death Watch, and maybe even some Jedi politics. Qui-Gon and his padawan get sent on a year long mission, did someone want him out of their hair or did he want to GTFO of Coruscant? how public was their role? were they asked for or imposed? i also really like the idea of a war that ultimately results in pacifist rule. how does that happen?
politics, romance, big battle scenes, being on the run from bounty hunters! it's been explored in fan fiction** but i'd love to see it all in canon.
*don't get me wrong, i'm here for the Obitine show every day and twice on Sunday. also if you are skeptical about The Clone Wars try watching that 3-episode arc
**Blood of Mandalore got me through some dark times in the spring of 2020 when i couldn't seem to read anything. it hasn't been updated for over a year but i think it's still worth reading.
Squee: Tell us about a place or indeed time period you’d love to see some canon/fanon based in. This could be for an existing fandom or an idea for an entirely new show, movie, book... Alternatively, you can gush about your favourite place on Earth now, or geek out over the fascinating minutia of a particular historical period/place.

Date: 2021-08-27 06:07 am (UTC)You're right, it's an interesting bit of the timeline to explore. Although I can see how Disney/creators might be skittish about trying to create a canon version of it - sometimes you have bits of a character's backstory which work great when only hinted at, but which lose potency when they get spelled out.
I probably wouldn't enjoy watching/reading it because of the romance angle, but that's 100% a "me" problem. Satine definitely deserves more focus! So does her relationship with Bo-Katan! And gosh, I would absolutely mine it for fanfic material if it got made.
...to be absolutely clear, I'm not against Obi-Wan/Satine, I just have Issues (tm) around hetero romance in canon media and the whole thing about Satine being created to be fridged for Obi-Wan's angst. I know, I write too, it's perfectly normal to create characters to kill off, I know, it's just. ARGH.
Sigh. I tried not to overshare on a stranger's post, but alas, I failed. Sorry? I hope the pleasure of getting a comment outweighs the awkward bits.

Oh, Solo. Yeah, turning to fic is often safer than hoping for new canon: it's as likely to go pear-shaped as everything else, and then you're left to deal with the wreck.
