setting aside the comics:
Tony Stark was never the only super-scientist in the MCU. even in Iron Man, it's clear that while he is objectively better than his competitors, there are competitors in the military contracting sphere and he has talented people working for him.

the films establish multiple super-scientists, and it's easily arguable that Hank Pym and Shuri (especially Shuri) are better than Tony, at least in their areas of interest.

when we meet Sam Wilson in The Winter Soldier and at no point later on is it suggested that Tony Stark invented the Falcon wings. i would argue that they weren't Stark tech when the Air Force bought them, because with the extensive montage of Tony designing and trialing the Iron Man suit, wings never come up. (we can argue that he instantly crossed them off because of weight, but if anyone lived by the Rule of Cool, it was the guy who painted his suit like a racecar and wings are cool.)

which gets me to Falcon and the Winter Soldier and some fan assumptions that really bother me. I've seen the wings and the new Captain America suit labelled as Stark tech, not just by fans but by at least one professional reviewer.

IT IS TEXT THAT THE NEW WINGS AND SUIT CAME FROM WAKANDA.

Bucky asks Ayo for a favor after Sam's wings are destroyed. Bucky gives Sam a case that is clearly of Wakandan design (that dark metal with the sort of art deco grooves in it has been Wakandan in the films all along, look at Bucky's arm).

and, oh yes, IN THE MCU TONY STARK IS DEAD.

the text that Wakanda gifted a supersuit to a black man to be Captain America is beautiful. it's part of the story of reaching out to the African diaspora and healing the wrongs that came from hiding from the world. i'm sorry that there are so many people who completely missed it.

You are 110% right. and I think at least some of those people deliberately missed it.

I was also surprised at the people missing the Wakanda connection. I think the show has to do like mini time jumps of several days to a week between scenes and since they aren't explicitly lampshaded these folks just missed them and then things get a little jumbled. Except for that one person, I haven't seen anyone who didn't immediately do a forehead smack and then get excited about the idea, but I have a really good reading circle. : ) Or I'm just way too optimistic?

I really like that last bit where you're laying out Wakanda's reasoning. I'm really looking forward to see what they do with the next movie/tv that set there.

FWIW, the wings are also explicitly Wakandan in the comics and have been since the get-go, back when Sam was first becoming Falcon. T'Challa invites Sam to Wakanda and gives them to him in Cap #170.

WTF! I thought that was obvious... I guess not to some people?
