That said, holy cow yes. Whether it dies in undeserved cancellation, or gets saved, it's so good. It only gets better as it goes on, and it's absolute gorgeous in its animation.
the fans have been persistent and polite. i'm hopeful but considering the historic speed of development (unless it's been going on secretly in order to do a surprise announcement) it will be years before anything comes of it, if ever.
i love it more than i can adequately express. (which reminds me that i haven't done a commentary watch of the last season. the commentary tracks are a whole other layer of entertainment.) i feel like they have a lot to teach other showrunners in terms of creating a loose scaffold that they build on over time, that still feels like a fully-realized and layered world all along.
Last I saw, they're in the "talks" phase. I'm definitely keeping my eye on it, because AS did this show so dirty. 15 years, and seven seasons.
But yeah, the way they've structured it made it so easy to keep building and introducing new things with minimal retcons. Like, it just slowly zooms out to a bigger and bigger world over time.
I just recently rewatched the whole thing, and was very surprised to realise that the JJ thing was established in the pilot. I also really loved how they handled a lot of the weird design choices they went with there, by just straight up acknowledging them. Monarch's "clunky old costume" would come back occasionally, in one form or another, and Speedy getting referenced a few times later was always funny.
And I loved that Johnny actually got some kind of closure, however bittersweet it was. If you had told me 15 years ago that Johnny Quest would have one of the most compelling storylines in someone else's cartoon, I'd have slapped you back to reality.
