In the back of the book you can mail in to get the missing emotional
reunion scene, but what you actually would get are these letters. William Goldman was a master troll. (And the book remains better than the film.)

Heh, clever! And definitely plays into Goldman's reasons for writing the book in the first place.

The movie has some genuinely good bits, but I kind of hate it.

I read the book first, and when I saw the film it was a huge disappointment and I too kind of hated it. I've softened on it a great deal in the intervening years, but any Princess Bride movie quotefest pretty quickly gives me strain from eyerolling.

I find the timing jussssssssst a little too slow, and the swordfight on the cliffs of insanity takes forever and looks like it's on a Star Trek TOS set. I will also lay down my life for Peter Cook's cameo.

It's one of the reasons I spent years hoping Good Omens would never get made, but that actually worked out great.
