May. 28th, 2020 08:39 pmi meant to write every day, but i didn't know how very boring life would be.
i bought a desk and made a space for it in the bedroom. we had to reshuffle some bookcases, but otherwise it wasn't too bad to come up with the space.
now i can put work out of sight, have a whiteboard on the wall, and we have a table again. plus i don't have to have an ethernet cable running across the living room. i am at the table with my not-work computer and it feels great.
desk is a 40in wide standing desk i found on amazon. it took two people to put together (i suppose it could have been one with the aid of something to prop pieces in place) but was otherwise easy and is very sturdy/wobble-free.
our release at work went out with no major technical issues. we're all catching our breath.

Date: 2020-05-29 03:01 pm (UTC)I suspect that our success at delivery during this time is going to make working remotely the new open office and that the commercial real estate market in Seattle is going to collapse.

Date: 2020-05-29 04:13 pm (UTC)Work-at-work.I miss the physical resources, the ability to have an unstructured/unscheduled conversation about what I'm working on, the completely separate headspace, just being on the network and not having to fuss with VPN. I appreciate being able to occasionally work from home in order to more easily do errands like go to the dentist or keep an eye on C when he's sick, but occasionally is the key here.

Date: 2020-05-29 04:52 pm (UTC)What model desk did you get? I'm here for probably the rest of the year, so I'm thinking of upgrading from my currently laptop-on-the-couch scenario and looking at options

I didn't use the monitor mount because I use dual monitors and already owned an arm, but the monitor mount seemed quite nice. if you don't use the mount, the hole becomes a cable guide.
while the height is adjustable, you have to disassemble the desk to change it. so it's not for sit/stand. if you in particular want to stand you'll want to do some measuring - you may have issues getting a desk that's tall enough for you.
