the experience with my Friday night game group was not nearly as good as with the knittas. perhaps because of weeknight vs Friday in terms of traffic?

stuff that went wrong:
  • some people in the room couldn't hear other specific people when the rest of us could hear everyone. problem required logging out and logging in. over and over again.

  • we pretty quickly gave up on video except for the camera on the destiny point tracker because the quality was so sketchy.

  • C and i chose our side of the table poorly and were over-lit. his head glowed and we had lens flare.

  • E did not actually have a webcam he could use.

stuff that went right:
  • everyone had headphones and/or the right equipment, so we stamped out all echo. sound quality was generally good.

  • because we're playing FFG Star Wars and they encourage theatre of the mind, working without minis or other mapping was just fine.

  • i was a bit chuffed about figuring out how to show the destiny points - this system has a mechanic where you have a pool of dark side/light side tokens that can be used to benefit you or slow down your opponent. the idea is that the PCs get the light ones and the GM the dark. when you spend one, you flip it, granting the opportunity for it to be used by the other side. in this case we had C's phone on a selfie stick (it was a gift, okay?) in a milk bottle, pointing down at the array of tokens and our dice tray. C and i did the flipping as directed.

  • though we didn't keep the video on, i did get to see everyone's faces, and that was nice.

i think for game i'm going to suggest just using the open voice channel next time, and come up with another way to track the destiny points.
