ironymaidenwent to orientation for my class today. commute was easy in spite of the weather and the train construction.
the venue is near the best dim sum and there's a coffee shop next door, so i know what to do if i'm early. otherwise it's bare-bones: tables with power outlets, a projector. the class is diverse in race and age and national origin and gender presentation, which is nice. everyone seemed friendly.
i like the teacher so far. the assistant seems like a good guy but i'm going to have to work hard to understand his accent. the format of the class will be flipped, which should be good for me - what i wanted out of taking a class was a) structure and b) getting to ask questions and get code reviewed.
only (mild) annoyance is that he's a longtime Windows dude. i'll be fine; i hope my other classmates with Macs will be fine. he says he tests everything on a Mac and will highlight any differences.

teacher: "have you heard of the British comedy group Monty Python?"
