there is a lot of Star Wars in my life right now.
last night was the first session of our new FFG Star Wars campaign. one of the game mechanics is something called Obligation; every character has at least one complicating plot hook attached to them (think Han Solo's debt to Jabba the Hut). at the beginning of each session, the game master rolls on a table to see if an Obligation is triggered, and which one. my character has a very dark past that was intended to be hidden from the party for as long as possible. welp, my number came up. at least i managed to keep it from everyone but the droid who only speaks binary. i enjoyed the heck out of it and next session looks to be a heist (to support the party's efforts to cash in a set of bounties that will pay our rent) where my character will be looking to quietly pick up some items to complete her agenda.

what with one thing and another, we rewatched Rogue One this afternoon. because i had also watched the original Star Wars this week, i felt much better about CG Peter Cushing... because real life Peter Cushing is a creepy and unnatural looking dude. if anything, the CG version softens the planes of his face a bit. i love Rogue One because i love a noble sacrifice. today i felt more for the death of characters that i met once than i did for the death of Leia Organa in The Rise of Skywalker. it's also well-paced, funny, and has memorable action setpieces.
we've moved on to watching Clone Wars but if i was up for subtitles today it would have been some Donnie Yen movies. i'm thinking of watching Dragon again before too long.
