Uma's toes

ironymaidensometimes i see Quentin Tarantino as my missing brother, the guy who slots into the age range between me and Bill/Douglas. he also falls into that odd friend/teacher place that big brothers live in (if i had ever actually met him, and i bet he's a prick in real life :)
impressions from Kill Bill:
i have much nicer toes and feet than Uma Thurman (even though mine are a little hobbity), and i don't have a staff to groom them.
this movie is a sort of homage to chop-socky and a specific period of hong-kong action movie. if you don't get it, go home. i missed that perfect bored conversation that Tarantino writes, but these aren't people that have those conversations, so it was ok.

i can't make a quality statement yet. i liked it, but i'm not sure why. i really thrill in details like sonny chiba tossing knives onto the magnetic strip on the wall; little references to Enter the Dragon and i'm sure scads of others i haven't seen; that the Bride wasn't carrying the only katana on the plane
is Lucy Liu the only asian actress in hollywood? why?????
there was a deal of nervous, scattered male laughter during the Black Mamba/Copperhead fight. i thought that one was the one with the least camp in the film. i also thought that it hit on exactly how women fight (if they're trained asassins, of course). so was it funny to see it in a nice suburban home, or was it scary? there's probably a thesis in there somewhere.
i liked the blood. its absence is a problem i have with the matrix, and i always appreciate cinematic heroes' bruises. makes 'em heroic. i think it had to be over the top, or we couldn't have watched without puking. sometimes you have to tell the audience that "this isn't real," kinda like the end of titus andronicus. (someday, someone will do an x-rated titus, but it won't get distribution and people will freak and it'll be an underground classic like faces of death)
my breakfast is getting cold. more later?
