Piazzolla, the Years of the Shark
this was one of those documentaries for avid fans who wanted to know more. for me, I never understood why he was considered a sort of outlaw by tango traditionalists because they didn't define traditional tango for uncultured Americans. Lots of great home video and audio cut with period tv interviews and performances, plus some modern footage of his son who holds most of the memorabilia. ultimately it didn't work for me and I dozed a bit in the middle. charming note: Piazzolla was born in Argentina but grew up in New York City - the few times we hear him speak English it's with a native Noo Yawk accent.
