what are you currently consuming?
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and The Good Place.
both just came back from a break.
CxG hasn't lost a step - this week the musical theme waspussyCats and it filled my heart with glee*. there were a ton of guest stars, so there are apparently rights issues with posting the songs. alas, to see Todrick Hall singing about bacterial vaginosis you'll have to watch the whole episode.
this week's episode of The Good Place was my least favorite of the season. this is the first time i truly felt like flailing was starting to happen. on the other hand, we're going to see a minor character that i love next week. that's worthwhile.
what did you recently finish?
i needed to give my hands a rest** so i watched something with subtitles. i know i'm late to the party, but i adored Yuri on Ice.*** i don't know what i was expecting beyond figure skating and romance, but i don't think i expected something so entirely from the POV of a person with depression/anxiety. (like, Yuri was a national champion and he describes himself as middle-of-the road.) or that there would be a dog! i appreciated the structure, the careful recreation of skating venues and events, and the way a late-season revelation reframes all the previous episodes. i also appreciated that women aren't objectified in this series at all. it's not that they're absent but that they aren't ever portrayed as an object of desire. (oh, there's still fanservice. SO MUCH FANSERVICE.) i probably would enjoy a rewatch.
what will you consume next?
not sure. i've been dipping in and out of Key & Peele and today i stumbled across a reality show on Netflix about a Maori family running a funeral home that piqued my interest. maybe i'll get back to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime while i keep protecting my hands.
* not because i like Cats. i know that it was formative for many people but as technically innovative as it was at the time, it's still just a revue and the songs are meh. with a lesser director than Trevor Nunn that thing never would have gone anywhere.
**i almost always knit or spin in front of the tv.
**i can't figure out if the three exclamation points that often follow Yuri are officially part of the title or some weird fandom affectation. it's not how it's listed on crunchyroll.

Date: 2019-01-16 02:28 am (UTC)i understand the first, but don't see how that leads to the second. perhaps we deal with subtitles differently from each other?

Date: 2019-01-16 02:45 am (UTC)i usually watch television while doing something with my hands - knitting, spinning, winding yarn, folding clothes, etc. etc. etc. this takes a fragment of attention from the television and can make keeping up with subtitles difficult.
