Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse

was excellent. if it doesn't get the Best Animated Feature Oscar, well, it would be criminal. the story is great, the dialog is great, the characters are great, the art is great...the sound is great. (as noted by pirate D, there is a moment where every Spider-being jumps and they each have their own sound effect.)

i loved centering the film on Miles and his code switching: Spanish and English, neighborhood and charter school, interacting with his cop Dad and his shady uncle Aaron. we know we will see him get another double life to lead.

this film captured the experience of putting on headphones and shutting out the world in a way i haven't seen before. really everything starts out mundane, and then once the spider bite happens the world gets more and more heightened and the elements of comic book design come forward. and having the multi-verse element means that you can see Spidey learning, at the height of their powers, and in decline all at once.

there are references and easter eggs throughout (including a hilarious post-credits sting that is SO VERY far up the internet's ass) but if you didn't know who Spider-man is already you could safely watch this and enjoy it.

I loved it. Utterly brilliant. My first reaction was that this was maybe best superhero movie I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot of 'em.

This makes me want to make time for it even more. I've been busy when my friends invited me to see it, but maybe I should just go alone like I did with Black Panther.
